Aswan Preparatory Workshop
The Cairo International Center for Conflict Resolution, Peacekeeping and Peacebuilding (CCCPA), as the Secretariat of the #AswanForum, organized a hybrid workshop titled: “A New Era of Peace, Security and Development Powered by Artificial Intelligence”. The workshop was conducted in fulfillment of Egypt’s pledges presented at the 2025 UN Peacekeeping Ministerial Conference held in Berlin.

Held in preparation for the 5th Edition of the Aswan Forum for Sustainable Peace and Development (AswanForum), the workshop provided a timely platform to reflect on the growing nexus between AI and its impact on peace, security and development. It explored the promises and pitfalls associated with the use of AI in these fields, and raised awareness of the ethical dimension related to this unprecedented interface.

The insights gathered at this workshop will be reflected in a dedicated session during the upcoming edition of the #Aswan Forum, scheduled for 19-20 October 2025.

The workshop featured interventions from: H.E. Ambassador Philip Thigo, Special Envoy on Technology for the Republic of Kenya , Mr. Omar Mohsine from the UN Office of Digital and Emerging Technologies, Dr. Barbara Glover, Programme Manager at the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Dr. Muhammed El Azab, President of the AI Arab Forum, Mr. Mohamed Farahat, Member of the UN High-Level Advisory Body on AI, Dr. Hesham Farouk, Technology Development Advisor at the Egyptian Ministry of Communications and Information Technology

Ahead of the Aswan Forum, speakers gathered to delve deep into the potential of using AI as a driving force for good, while discussing means to mitigate the downside of applying such emerging technologies in peace, security and development.
