The Aswan Forum is the first of its kind platform in Africa to address the interlinkages between peace and development, and champion Africa-led solutions, through strengthening the policies-practices linkages.

This year’s theme is “An Agenda for Sustainable Peace, Security and Development in Africa”.
When and where is the inaugural Aswan Forum going to be held?
The first forum is scheduled to be held in Aswan, Egypt on 11-12 December 2019.
Who can participate in the Aswan Forum?
The Aswan Forum is a high-level event that is not open to the public and is by invitation only.
Who will be attending the 2019 Aswan Forum?
The event will bring together heads of states and governments, leaders from national governments, regional and international organizations and financial institutions, the private sector, and civil society, as well as visionaries, scholars, and prominent experts
What is the working language of the Aswan Forum?
The official language of the Forum is English. Simultaneous translation will be available in both Arabic and French.
How can I register for the Aswan Forum?
A registration link will be sent to confirmed participants for their registration by the hosts. The link is personal and non-transferable.
Does the Aswan Forum provide any funding or support for participants attending?
Only a select number of participants will be fully sponsored by the hosts to attend the event. Partial sponsorships are also available. All sponsorships are at the discretion of the hosts, and are communicated in the letter of invitation.
Will the event be covered by the media?
Yes. International and Egyptian media will be covering the Aswan Forum.
Will the event be covered on social media?
Yes. The Aswan Forum Secretariat will be streaming and posting live on Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Instagram.

Who can participate in the “by invitation only” sessions?
These sessions are reserved for high-level national, regional and international actors, stakeholders and partners who are concerned with the theme of the sessions.
Do I have to obtain a visa before my departure to Egypt?
It is the responsibility of each participant to obtain their visas to Egypt prior to their travel from their country of residence, as visas upon arrival are not available for all country nationals. The hosts will provide visa facilitation letters if necessary for participants requesting it. Such requests must be made at least three weeks before the event.
I am a sponsored participant, how will I receive my flight details?
Participants whose international/domestic travel arrangements are covered by the hosts will receive a suggested itinerary through their online profile before their ticket is issued. The final e-ticket will also be available through the same site.
How do I book my accommodation in Aswan?
The hosts have booked a block of rooms at the main hotels in Aswan and have made arrangements for additional accommodation units to be made available on cruise ships to be docked near the Forum venue. Room assignments will be made by the hosts and communicated to participants on the day of their arrival in Aswan.
Will there be arrangements made for accommodation in Cairo during long transits?
No. The hosts will only provide accommodation in Aswan from 10 to 13 December 2019. Efforts are being made with the official carrier of the Aswan Forum to reduce long transit times of participants in Cairo.
Where do I receive my forum registration package and badge?
On-site registration will be done either at the Forum venue or upon arrival at the Aswan International Airport.
Can I access the Forum venue without my badge?
No. Due to the high-level nature of this event, the Forum badge must be worn and be visible at all times. Access to the Forum venue and certain surrounding areas is dependent on the badge type.
What happens if I lose my badge?
If you lose your badge, please inform the help desk located in the selected Forum hotels to immediately issue a new badge.
How far is Aswan from Cairo?
The trip to Aswan from Cairo by air is usually 1 hour and 20 minutes.
Can I bring my spouse/family to Aswan?
Since flights and accommodation to Aswan are very limited, coordination with the Aswan Forum Secretariat is a must regarding family members accompanying participants. The additional costs (airfare, accommodation, meals, etc) are the full responsibility of the participant.
Are there any hospitals/clinics nearby in case of a medical emergency during the Forum?
There is one main fully equipped hospital in Aswan. The hosts have also made arrangements for access to onsite ambulances in case of emergencies.
What is the weather like in Aswan in December?
The weather in Aswan during the month of December is mainly sunny during the day with highs of up to 27oC. The evenings are cooler and can reach 11oC. December is usually the most humid month of the year in Aswan.
Is there a possibility to book tours in Aswan or other Egyptian tourist attraction after the event?
Yes. There will be an on-site help desk to assist participants wishing to stay after the event with recommendations on tours within Egypt.
